everyone asking for a barbershop in baldur’s gate (the city). no no no. Let Withers do your hair in camp. He already handles class changes. this is the most convenient way to do it.
“Thou hast come to me again. Yet thy look … Drab. Ill fitting. Harken, mortal one, wouldst thou given unto me two bits, and thou wouldst reap both shave and haircut.”
Okay here’s my list of stuff I really wanna read before the end of the year
-The Martyr + The Traitor to finish out Anthony Ryan’s Covenant of Steel series that I started, bc I’m really loving The Pariah and it’d be nice to wrap an entire trilogy in one year (I’m NOTORIOUSLY bad at reading series)
-The Tyranny of Faith by Richard Swan bc I really liked The Justice of Kings and I think it’d be fun to get more new releases under my belt
-The Will of the Many by James Islington mostly bc it’s very buzzy. A lot of reviewers I like are talking about this as a BOTY contender so I’m very 👀
-The Spite House by Johnny Compton this one also bc it’s a new release with a neat premise that a lot of reviewers I respect seemed to like. Always trying to add to my haunted house catalog anyway
-Night’s Edge by Liz Kerin uhhh sapphic protag + fucked up parental issues + VAMPIRES?! I’m THERE
-Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward this comes out tomorrow and I’m very tempted to be stupid and just go pick up a copy after work instead of waiting for payday. But anyway, I’ve read (I think) all but one of Ward’s published books at this point and enjoyed each of them immensely. Been hyped for this one all year.
The Handyman Method by Nick Cutter and Andrew F. Sullivan this one just seems fucked up. Great premise, I absolutely can’t resist an evil video horror plot. Plus, I’m finally reading Cutter for the first time and liking his work a lot. I think this one could be really cool
There’s like a bunch of other stuff coming out that I’m excited for and of course my gigantic back list TBR but I have to be realistic. 8 books for the rest of the year is exceedingly doable (even if the Islington and Ryan books are pretty chunky).
As an adult you might assume that the problem of ‘being too excited about the book you’re reading to go to sleep’ to be an issue you grow out of after 5th grade. Not so, if you’re a big enough nerd reading a good enough book
I’m fully in my silly little fantasy guy era. Not really planned it just kinda worked out like - when I haven’t been playing bg3 I’ve been reading (and really enjoying) The Pariah by Anthony Ryan. And the soundtrack to my reading has to be genre-appropriate of course so I’m listening to Smoulder and Gatekeeper and Fierce Deity. Critical levels of nerd rn. Havin a blast
So fucked up that I have to go to work tomorrow instead of staying home to read my little stories and play my little games :/
